Less is More

"Don't live your life by somebody else's rules. Create your own play book.
There's no need to play it safe. Life is meant to be an adventure!"

.....I scribbled these words down in my journal last month while traveling through Europe. During a sleepless night in Paris, it dawned on me that we had spent 4 weeks of the last 10 months in Europe. A place I grew up in and hold dear in my heart, but over the last few years had pretty much given up hope that it would be a big part of my life going forward. Until, we made a conscious effort to do so. We live in a society that prioritizes driving a fancy car, going out to expensive dinners, and filling your house with stuff. But, one thing I've realized is that the more stuff you have, the more trapped you become by your possessions and the less free you are to roam this great Earth.

Devin and I talk about this idea a lot and really try to live in a minimalist way so that we can put our time, money and energy towards creating beautiful experiences. I would much rather have a heart full of memories and mis-adventures in foreign lands than a closet full of Hermes handbags.

Riding the flying swings above Paris on a sunny July day....pure JOY!

In this modern world full of lots of opportunities, also comes lots of hard choices. How you choose to spend your time, your money, your energy -- it's all up to YOU. Every now and then, I find it extremely helpful to take a pause to check in and make sure that I'm doing what's right for me. It's easy to get caught up in the pull of other people's wants, demands and wishes for your life. But, I find it ever so important to remember that you only get one shot at this thing called life and it should be truly yours.

Add a dash of adventure and all of a sudden, you're living your best, most authentic, most daringly courageous life!

  1. This is just perfect. I so, so agree. I like my job and I earn just enough money for my bills, food and a bit of savings and it's the same for my boyfriend. Together we enjoy our day-to-day lives, enjoy our time together, we're resourceful and creative with what money we do have and we save for bigger adventures!

  2. This was such a beautiful entry! I have been slowly but surely taking steps out of a life that makes me unhappy but seemed normal (take the job to pay the bills even if you're miserable), into a authentic experience as a human being with preferences!

I've had to surround myself with different kinds of people who feel the same way, and it's always SO refreshing when others get it.

Thanks for sharing and spreading this idea. :)

  3. I couldn't agree more. Having a lot of things weighs you down; it is experiences that make you happy :-)

    Loving this blog.
